Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET)

Due to the current events in Ukraine, on March 3, 2022, the Canadian Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) introduced the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) to support the people of Ukraine.
The program provides Ukrainians and their family members with a free, extended temporary resident status and allows them to work, study, and stay in Canada
until they are able to safely return to their homeland.

    Who can apply:

      • Citizens of Ukraine
      • Family members of Ukrainian citizens (of any nationality)*

*Family members are: spouse or common-law partner of a Ukrainian citizen; their dependent child; dependent child of the spouse or common-law partner; dependent child of their dependent child.

        Status

Upon arrival in Canada, Ukrainians are granted the status of:

        • visitor
        • worker, if applying for a work permit valid up to three years or applying for a new permit
        • student for those under 18 years old who wish to study in Canada, if applying for a study permit

Temporary residents have the option to apply for permanent residence through various programs if they decide to stay in Canada after their temporary stay ends.

CUAET also allows those already in Canada to extend their visitor status, work permit, or study permit so they can continue to live, work, or study in Canada.
