In general terms, the procedure for legal labor migration to the Czech Republic is as follows:
- The applicant finds an open job position on the Czech labor market.
- Contacts the employer and undergoes an interview.
- Discusses details and signs an employment contract.
- Obtains a work permit and opens a work visa.
- The foreign worker arrives and receives a residence permit in the Czech Republic (work card, blue card).
At first glance, nothing complicated, but in reality there are many “pitfalls” and requirements. A work visa to the Czech Republic for Ukrainians or Russians becomes available only after a complete lack of candidates for the vacancy among Czechs and Europeans for at least a month.
At the same time, the job must be publicly available and actively advertised. In addition, the employer must guarantee the foreigner the level of salary and working conditions equal to those of Czech citizens.
Not every company in the Czech Republic is ready to spend time and take risks associated with hiring a foreign applicant. In short, the employer must be very interested in the foreigner’s skills, who in turn must have sufficient qualifications and education.
High competition makes the task even more difficult. Sometimes special quotas for workers from third countries, such as Ukrainians, help specialists in professions scarce for the Czech economy to obtain a work visa relatively quickly and easily.
Work permit and work visa
To obtain a work visa for the Czech Republic, it is necessary to first obtain a special work permit at the regional department of the Employment Department. This requirement applies to applicants who are not required to obtain a work card or do not have a Blue Card in the Czech Republic. For example, for seasonal employment up to 6 months per year or temporary work up to 3 months under a contract.
Methods of labor migration to the Czech Republic
The application is submitted in writing by the foreigner personally, a representative by proxy, or the employer. The last option is the most optimal. The validity of the work permit corresponds to the duration of the contract but no more than 2 years with the possibility of extension. The cost of processing is 500 Czech crowns. The document is strictly tied to the employer, type of activity, and workplace. Otherwise, a new permit must be obtained.
