Long-term residence — Work Permit Card
Conditions and required documents for applying for a work permit card.
Important information for applicants officially employed in other EU member states except the Czech Republic, or who have residence and work permits in another EU member state (e.g., Poland), and are sent by their foreign employer to the Czech Republic.
Documents:
- Application form for the work permit card.
- Valid foreign passport, issued no more than 10 years ago, with at least two blank pages; passport validity must be at least 3 months after visa expiry; must not be damaged.
- Two identical photos matching current appearance.
- Document confirming accommodation in the Czech Republic.
- Employment contract, work activity agreement, or future contract (both original and notarized copy required; original returned immediately), stating that the foreigner’s monthly salary is not less than the minimum wage; weekly working time at least 15 hours. Document must be in Czech with notarized translation understandable to applicant.
Other documents:
- Proof of professional competence (nostrification not required; original and certified copy recommended).
- Work permit, if required (certain foreigners such as partners or statutory bodies of legal entities are not eligible even with a work permit).
- Document confirming exemption from work permit under §98 Employment Act; for regulated professions, proof of qualifications required.
- Criminal record certificate from Ukraine (full). If applicant resided more than 6 months continuously in another country in last 3 years, certificate from that country may be required. Name change certificates if applicable.
- Special requirements under law No. 435/2004 Sb.:
Foreigners employed by foreign legal entities sent to Czech Republic for work under contracts with Czech entities.
Seasonal workers up to 6 months per year with 6 months break.
Internships up to 6 months with extension for qualification.
Temporary work for persons up to 26 years under exchange or youth programs.
Important information:
Entry visa for residence permit valid 6 months, stay in CR up to 60 days. Must apply to Ministry of Interior within 3 working days after entry for residence card. Card issued within 60 days.
Residence permit allows stays in other Schengen countries (except CR) up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Documents not older than 180 days except passport, vital records, photos.
All documents in Czech or with notarized translation; Ukrainian documents do not require apostille.
Applicant must pay applicable fees.
Processing time up to 60 days, 90 in special cases; 30 days for “Leading and Scientific Personnel” program.
Work permit card valid for contract term, max 2 years; if with work permit, matches permit validity.
